Hey Denman , thanks for your help, But i replaced that circuit board before posting here. That is part # 4388932, The Defrost timer is part
# 2188175 The circuit board i was told by a appliance parts house was
possibly the problem, If not it was either the Defrost Timer or the Heater
element. I want to replace the Defrost Timer now. But i need to find the location. I thawed out the coiles last night to bide me some time. The refridgerators temp dropped to 38 degrees, for now. Could you please help with locating the Timer, Thanks again

Sorry but I do not understand.
4388932 (AP3109394) is the timer
2188175 (AP329888175) is the heater element

Here is the wiring diagram
http://www.servicematters.com/docs/w...%202255377.pdf
As you can see there is onlt one board in the unit and that is the Adaptive Defrost Board which does the same thing as an old style electric timer.

I did note that although the wiring diagram shows a bi-metal (defrost thermostat) I could not find it in the parts breakdown.

If you do not have a meter to check the components I would replace both the heater and the bi-metal.

Denman thanks again for your help, i have a question. If i unplug the fridge and cut the 2 wires on the defrost thermostat , put them together
plug the fridge back in and see if the defrost heater starts to work, If it
does replace the defrost thermostat. If not Replace the Defrost heating
element ?? Please give me your input. Thanks again

Yes, as long as you can force it into a defrost cycle. Often you will notice that the defrost thermostat is bulged out, water has gotten into it and frozen. If this is the case it needs replacing

If not Replace the Defrost heating element ??

Yes

If you do not own a meter, I would suggest you purchase a one. You can get a decent digital multimeter for under $20.00. You do not need fancy though it is nice if the leads are a couple feet long.
If it saves ordering one unnecessary part it has paid for itself and you end up owning a useful tool.
Most places will not let you return electrical parts so if you order it, you own it.
A couple things to watch when measuring ohms and continuity
1. Always remove power from the machine otherwise you could blow your meter.
2. Always disconnect at least one side of any device you are checking. This eliminates the possibility of measuring an alternate/parallel circuit path.
3. When checking for closed contacts and continuity use the lowest scale (Usually 200 ohms). Then try higher scales. This scale is 0 to 200 ohms so if the device you are measuring is 300 ohms this scale would show an open circuit which it is not, you are just measuring outside the scale's dynamic range.

There is a good STICKY at the start of this forum about it's use.

Thanks Denman i am going to check the thermostat with an ohm meter
It has not bulged out , But it did have ice almost completely covering
the thermostat before i defrosted the coiles manually. A 4 year old fridge should not have any problems. Thanks again i will post back with the outcome.

Default defrost timer location

I have a whirlpool side x side also. Open the refrigerator side and look at the section where you set your temperatures. What you're looking for should be located inside that panel. A lot fo those models actually came with an adaptive defrost control(approx. $40 for that part).

I feel like I'm in the same boat, sort-of. I read the cool freezer/hot refrigerator post but I don't think I have a physical defrost timer. My damper is working FYI, My coils are pretty frozen up. Is there a way to test the digital versions (no physical timer that I can tell). Whirlpool gold gc5shexnq00. If not, which controler board do I need?
Thanks in advance.
