Our Jenn-Air freezer/refrigerator S/N 10364100YF has ceased keeping the Frig side at 40 degrees, (with full cool on both Frig and Freezer, best unit can do is 45 degrees), Freezer is staying at 0 degrees on high, 5 degrees on Mid temperature. I've examined the associated thread (Freezer is fine, refrigerator is too warm), but cannot locate the defrost thermostat on my unit - only the adaptive defrost board. The opening between the Frig and the Freezer (located where the vegetable crisper drawer is in the Frig) is frosted over, something I initially attributed to turning up the cooling to max for both Frig and Freezer. If I examine the rear of the interior of the freezer I see only a little frost build-up - but some is there, however once I return to the opening between the Frig and the Freezer I don't feel forceful airflow, just cold passive air - nor do I see any evidence of a flap.

Lastly, I came to this forum for another problem with the same Frig early this year (Jenn-Air Side by Side not cooling ) leading me to replace the compressor start relay/overload which solved the problem at hand - I mention this in case their could be a re-occurring issue (power spike, Frig unlevel) that could be contributing to the unit's overall problematic nature. FWIW unit is 10 years old.

Thanks a bunch,

Jason Thompson

That frost build-up you describe in the damper suggests a defrost failure. To eliminate the adaptive defrost control board as suspect, turn the refrigerator off then on, three times within six seconds, using the control in the fresh food section. This should force a defrost mode.
If it goes into defrost, the board is good. This is a parts breakdown of your freezer section. The thermostat is part of the defrost heater assembly (#12 in the diagram). You'll see it clipped to the evaporator coil. Freezer compartment (jcd2389dtb/w) replacement parts for JENN-AIR JCD2389DTB Ref - SXS/I&W | AppliancePartsPros.com
You'll want to see if the heater is working, either by observing (is it hot during the defrost cycle?) or by a continuity check. The thermostat should be closed at freezing, and open at above freezing (32 or more degrees).
If you need to replace the heater, it's a good idea to also replace the thermostat.

Thanks Magician, having trouble locating the control in the fresh food section at the bottom half of the Frig, took out drawer assemblies, do I need to remove water tank as well? Thanks for your assistance,

The control is located at the top of the refrigerator. It is the two movable slide levers.

Ah, the temperature controls, indeed I slide those over and back the instructed 3 times, and now the compressor is off, nothing is running, is this the aforementioned defrost cycle? How long should this take and, upon its completion will the unit automatically cool to the set temperature on the control (if indeed nothing else is wrong and it just needed reset)?

Thanks,
