Red face Burnt Electronics smell in freezer!
Model Number: GTS22JBPBRCC   Brand: GE   Age: 1 - 5 years

About a week ago my GE fridge (freezer on top - less than 2 years old) started making a humming sound in the top right quadrant behind the freezer. At the same time it started taking spells of freezing and thawing (to the point of water dripping from the freezer ceiling). This morning I opened the freezer. Still cold but inside was an extremely strong acrid smell of either burnt wiring, fan motor, curcuit board??? etc. Obviously something was burning so I unplugged the unit. My question is... what is the most likely defective part? There was no odor outside the refridgerator until I opened the freezer. If it was a curcuit board it would smell outside not inside right? At a $100 for just the service call I could easily rack up $200-400 for the repair so I'm trying to decide if I can fix it reasonably of go find me a scratch and dent Whirlpool.
