Our upright Kenmore refrigerator is starting to fail. The ice maker no longer works, the freezer and fridge do not stay cold even when the temperature is turned down, and there is an exorbitant amount of heat being emitted from it. The floor beneath it is very hot, and the strip between the fridge and freezer is also very hot. The fridge is usually not this hot. We have tried different trouble shooting tips but they have not worked.

This same thing happened to some friends of ours whose fridge was shocked by lightning. Three trees very close to our house were just struck by lighting. The strike blew out some other small appliances and I think it might have blown out the refrigerator.

Does anyone have an idea of what might be the problem with our fridge and/or how we can fix it?

Does your fridge have coils on the bottom? Those coils need cleaned regularly. If its blowing out extremely hot air from the bottom that could be part of the problem.
