I am not sure this is freezer is really in need of repair or not but....
We purchased this 14.1 Cu Ft upright approx 2 months ago. Ice cream placed in the lower basket didn't seem very firm, so I placed a thermometer inside and adjusted the temp so it read 0F or just under. When I open the door to check the temp. and it sometimes reads 10F. A half hour later I will recheck and the temp is down to 0F. Why would a freezer have such temp. variations and will this affect the quality of the food. Obviously this happens during cycling, but since this is NOT a frost free model, I would think it would have a more stable temp reading at all times.
Could this be a coolant issue or just my paranoia? I am not that familiar with uprights as we had a chest before and it seemed quite stable temp. wise.
Thanks!

How much food is in the freezer?
What does the frost pattern look like, how much frost is on the shelves?
Is the door sealing properly
Is this located in the garage, and is it hot where you live?

The freezer is not at capacity but has plenty of food inside. Not a lot of frost build up at all.
Door seals very good.

Sorry, forgot to mention the frost pattern. It seems pretty consistant on the coils, none on the side walls yet. Freezer is in the basement with a mean temp of approx 65F.

That all sounds ok, Freezer have a larger temperature swing than a refrigerator will usually about 10 degrees. So, what is the temp control set at?
