I have a GE that did about the same thing and after weeks I finally took out the main board and found that one of the transisters was fried.
I put in a new board and it has been trouble free since.
Does the freezer get cold? The frigde works from there, a door opens to give cold air to the frig when needed.
Hope this helps, I'm just a homeowner, a do it yourselfer.

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for MAYTAG MSD2655HEQ Ref - SXS/I&W | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is a tech sheet

And a manual
http://www.servicematters.com/maytag_library/docs/16025628.pdf

First you have to determine if the compressor is running. It should be warm and you should be able to hear/feel it vibrating.
If yes
Then measure the temperature in the freezer. It should be close to 0 degrees F.
Also check that the evaporator fan is running. It is required to pull air through the evaporator coils and also push the cold air into the fresh food section.
If both OK
Remove the evaporator cover inside the freezer and check your coils.
If they are heavily iced/frosted over you may have a defrost problem. Note that the unit probably would have run OK for several days after the power surge and then as the ice/frost built up your problem appeared.

Hi
How did you know the transister was fried? I read somewhere that if the problem is not in the board and you replace it, the new one will be destroyed.
The temperature in our GE is not getting cold after the lightning/surge.
