Kitchenaid Built-In 36" Bottom Freezer Noise
Model Number: KBRC36FMS Brand: Kitchen Aid Age: 1 - 5 years
Kitchennaid KBRC36FMS installed 3 years ago. Since day one it makes 3 different very loud noises. The motor sound is the least noisy, but there is a whining and gurgling noise which occur together, or gurgling only. It's loud enough to hear 50 feet away and can last for hours. Kitchenaid is glad to send out a repair tech for a fee, and none can fix the problem. I've talked to local KA authorized repair businesses and none are familiar with this issue. I recently found a post on the Kitchenaid Conversations forum from a consumer with the same unit and problem..............
"The tech cured the noise coming from the freezer of my 36" bottom freezer built in fridge. He took the freezer door off and then removed the metal cover that is screwed into the top of the freezer. He wrapped one part in putty like substance completing covering it. He told me it was the part where freo goes into the freezer. I'm not exactly sure what it is called. Here is my best attempt at describing what it looked like. It was a 3 inch long tube shaped metal piece. It was brass/copper in color. Extending out from this piece was what looked like a piece of metal string. Also brass/copper in color. Where these two pieces connect he wrapped completely. Not sure what he used to cover it. It looked like a napkin made of silly putty. All I can say is the whiny gurgling noise is gone! I love my fridge now."
Kitchenaid won't forward a request to find out what kind of repair was made or who made it. From the lady's description, it seems that PermaGum or other similar substance was used. Does anyone know what is wrong with this unit and if the fix described above is realistic?
BTW - I have had nothing but problems with Kitchenaid..... terrible customer service. Built-In fridge very noisy. Top-of-the-line dishwasher needed new rack glides. Microwave CAUGHT FIRE!! It was not even in use. The fire was hot enough to crack the magnets! Thank God someone was home when it went up in flames. Kitchenaid refused to replace it and would only extend the warranty for 1 year after the tech shocked himself replacing the magnetron and had to go to the hospital. I can't get any information or help from Kitchenaid. Thanks for your assitance.
