The defrost timer (#24 on the refrigerator parts break down diagram) is located in the control panel in the fresh food compartment.

What was the original problem?

Freezer coils freezing up. Checked heater and it is OK. Is timer located under housing with lights. If so how do I remove housing and check timer?

Did you check the defrost thermostat?

No I didn't. How do you check? For me to get at connections, I have to melt all the ice.

Most common problem in such situation is a bad defrost thermostat. The defrost timer is the last failure suspect. I would replace the defrost thermostat even without testing it, especially because the part is less than $15 and there is a pretty good chance it will solve the problem.

- The part number for the defrost thermostat is AP3475238
