Default Ice Maker Not working
Model Number: GS6SHEXNS00   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

My ice maker has stopped working. The tray had no water in it,I removed the ice maker from the freezer ,didnt see any obvious problems.I reinstalled it and checked it about 3 hrs later, but it did not fill with water .Checked it the next day and the tray did have ice in it but did not release it .(the ice is still in tray for about 7 hrs now). The Infrared lite seems to be working fine(blinks with flapper open ,then stays on with flapper closed).Any Ideas? Thanks Ray

access remitter board (right-side of freezer) lossen harness enough to jump the two center wires (black and black-grey I believe). Use a screw driver to complete that curcuit. Your icemaker should start to cycle. If no, replace i/m. If yes, replace board.

OK From top to bottom on the harness plug I had white, yellow, black with white stripe, black, brown with white stripe, orange with black stripe. I jumped the black to black with white stripe. Nothing happened. The fact that there is no water in the tray(tray hasnt filled with water from begining of problem) would still be a result of a bad I/M???? Thanks Ray

Jumping black to black/white was correct. That should have cycled the icemaker for as long as you left it jumped. If your gears didn't start turning I/M is no good. I can't say if the other things mentioned are an addition issue, but I can say while jumped your I/M should cycle.

Yes no water in the tray can be a bad I/M. When voltage is supplied to the I/M it first heats to harvest ice in tray. It will not send power to the valve until the gears have turned enough to tell the I/M the tray is empty.
Bad gears=no power to fill valve.
