Before Christmas, my GE ice maker stopped making ice. I checked a number of things and discovered the heater under the ice mold was on and stayed on all the time. I purchased a new ice maker unit from Appliance Parts and installed it yesterday. The ice maker made one round of ice and stopped. Again, the heater under the ice mold stays on all the time. I can't think of anything else to try. I would have thought replacing the whole ice maker would fix the problem. I wondered if I just got a defective ice maker but it just seems like too much of a coincidence that I'd have the exact problem a second time. Any ideas?

Because the heater in the ice maker is wired in series with the water valve, very possible there is a power back up from the water valve or reversed polarity. You have to check the water valve wiring and you may want to replace the water valve.

Thanks Gene. To troubleshoot, can I disconnect the water valve and see if the heater still runs all the time?
