Default defrost heater
Model Number: CRFS14   Brand: Amana   Age: More than 10 years

The evaporator will freeze up with lots of ice. The defrost heater is getting hot, but not glowing red like I have seen on other elements in the past. Is this one supposed to glow red?

Hi Kenny,

The defrost heater in your fridge should be very hot to touch but should not glow red for a safety reason.

If the defrost heater is hot during the defrost cycle and the fridge goes on defrost as often as it should then there is nothing wrong.

Did you check the evaporator fan motor?

The model number you posted does not come up.

Gene.
