Default Overflowing Drip Pan, KitchenAid Side by Side
Model Number: KSRS25ILBT13   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
I came home today and found water all over the floor from under my refridgerator. It turned out that the consensate drip pan was full and overflowing with water.

I couldn't find any leaks in the water lines but there was a lot of debris all over the coils under the unit. I cleaned this off with a vacuum and cleaned out the pan. The fan beside the pan runs. Unit has been in service 65 months without prior problems.

Is there a heater that boils off condensate when defrosting. Could the blocked coils have contributed to this?

BTW: I don't use the water tap and it has been on RED to change the filter for years

This is a KitchenAid KSRS25ILBT13 side by side....

Many Thanks

I couldn't find any leaks in the water lines but there was a lot of debris all over the coils under the unit.
Get a flash light and check that it is not dripping into the tray when you are not in a defrost cycle. If it is then you have a water leak somewhere.

The fan beside the pan runs.
I know it is hard to tell but does it seem like the fan is running at full speed.
If not it may be your problem.
Unplug the unit then plug it back in while watching the fan it should start up and get to full speed quickly.

Is there a heater that boils off condensate when defrosting. Could the blocked coils have contributed to this?

No, there is not a separate heater.
Most units draw the air over the condenser coils which are warm and then over the water tray to evaporate the water. So dirty coils could cause the water to evaporate slower.

BTW: I don't use the water tap and it has been on RED to change the filter for years
Most units also use the filter fo the ice maker.

If all the above are OK then I would check the door seals especially if the unit runs constantly or if you have noticed condensation on items in the fresh food or heavy frost on items in the freezer.

Default Overflowing Drip Pan

The pan is getting water in it between the defrost cycles so I will keep looking for a leak somewhere. BTW: I turned the filter to the bypass position years ago. We have an external filter system.

Thanks for the tips
