I have a nice little Roper fridge that is on the fritz. The light comes on when the door is open, the fan runs, but the compressor never kicks in. This model has an electronic defrost unit. I have no idea how to test it. Does any one have a suggestion as to where to start on diagnosing the problem.

Since the evaporator fan and the compressor are wired in parallel, if the fan runs the compressor should run.

Could be the compressor itself, the overload or the start relay (PTC).
Also an outside chance that you have a bad wire.
