refrigerator wont restart

whirlpool model ed22texhnoo side-by-side starts up and runs cycle stops wont restart. I turn it off then back on starts up runs cycle goes off will not restart unless I turn off then on again,WHY??????

Sounds like the thermostat (#9 on the diagram) has gone bad.
