Default ice maker
Model Number: GD5SHAXLT01   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

The ice maker will not fill with water. The water dispenser in the door works. I can fill the ice maker with water and it will make ice. I can see the water in the line at the back of the refrigerator that goes to the ice maker. It just will not fill on it own.

Hi Mike,

Most likely the problem is with the water inlet valve. The valve has two solenoids - one solenoid is for the water dispenser and the other is for the ice maker. There is a small chance that the ice maker module may be bad, but sounds like the valve is what you need.

Water valve for your model

Note: Before changing the valve, don't forget to: 1. unplug the refrigerator power cord 2. turn off the water supply to the refrigerator.

Hope this helps.
