Kitchenaid Refrigerator Freezer Over Temp -21 Error
Model Number: KBLC36FMS00 Brand: Kitchen Aid Age: More than 10 years
Hi, new to the forum. Thanks in advance for whatever assistance can be provided.
Have a 10 year old 36" Kitchenaid built-in bottom freezer fridge. Model is KBLC36FMS00. Suddenly the freezer is barely freezing and getting the over temperature alarm and "-21" flashing on the control panel. Started with no longer making ice and then food no longer completely frozen although it is still slightly below freezing in freezer itself. Fridge portion seems totally fine.
1. Vacuumed the coils in the upper unit (not that dirty but couldn't hurt)
2. Checked that fan in upper unit is running YES
3. Checked that fan in freezer is running YES
4. Removed all food, powered off fridge for a couple of hours.
5. Put food back in fridge (70% full) and freezer (30% full) and powered back up.
After step 5 (and a number of hours to cool back down). The ice maker started working but within 24 hours or less getting the overtemp alarm. Spoke to Kitchenaid but they were unable / unwilling to provide information as to what component failure could cause this.
Does anyone know if a faulty freezer thermistor or possibly a damper failure could cause this? At a bit of a loss as to what else could be the issue.
See inside of your appliance - diagrams and part photos for virtually every model.
