This is an old side by side that has worked well until yesterday. Suddenly it never shuts off.
The temp seems to be staying just above 40 degrees in fridge/0 degrees in freezer no matter where I set it. If I turn the fridge temp up, it doesn't go off until I move the temp control right to the 'off' position.
I cleaned the condenser coils as thoroughly as possible; they aren't easy to get to. The condenser fan and the fan in the freezer are both running. Gasket looks OK, light switch works properly.
I can't figure out how to check the evaporator coils for frost; do I remove the back inner wall of the freezer? There is no frost inside the fridge. There is a thin layer of frost on the back wall of the freezer.
Also, the fridge is not empty.
I hope that's enough info. Any advice is very much appreciated.
Thanks.
Edit: I finally got the freezer emptied and now see slots in the back freezer panel through which I can see lots of frost. So I guess the coils are completely covered. I have unplugged the fridge to defrost. What is likely to have failed? Thanks.
