I have an older Whirlpool side by side (model # GC5SHEXNS02) that will run the compressor but for short times –2-6 seconds. Please read history and current problem----
History
The unit has run well for the past 3yrs of my ownership – a new refrigerator sent the whirlpool to the back room as a backup. After moving the fridge I plugged it in the wall and got a spark from the outlet –this outlet has been used for other appliances in the past and never caused an issue – it has been replaced –but the outlet did not have any issues –visually.
Diagnosis
I removed the back panel and found this unit is an inverter compressor – I checked the voltage of the power in leads and found 115v – I also found 3.37 vdc signal from the motherboard.
Also checked the compressor windings at 7.0-7.2 and windings to ground – and tested open.
**As I was taking the readings for the inverter -- the compressor was cycling on and off --however when I disconnected the power to ohm the compressor a strange thing happened -- I plugged the refrigerator back in and it stayed running -- ? --I let it run all afternoon and nite but it will not shut off?
Any Ideas?
