Default Does the main board have a safety shutoff?
Model Number: WSF26C3EXW01   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

I do not have the service paperwork for this unit. If can send me a link or pdf, it would be greatly appreciated.

Does the main control board control the condenser fan and compressor for this unit?

Refrigerator and refrigerator warm

The condenser fan and compressor were not running.

I unplugged the refrigerator for a few minutes and plugged it back in. The fan came on and the compressor made the typical clicking noise (going off on overload).

Does this refrigerator have a safety shutoff that will kill power to the compressor and condenser fan motor if temp is not satisfied over a certain period of time? It has been awhile since I worked on refrigerators, so I wasn't sure if they started becoming more advanced.

The main board controls everything except compressor overload. It doesn't shut the comp down except for defrost. If no fans were running it may have been in defrost but that's kind of a lucky timing and if it was warm inside the cabinet as well something else is going on. If the condensor fan restarted then it should also want to run the compressor. It has the same overload that compressors have had for years, you are right that is what you heard click off. It'll cool down and retry like they always do. Might just be a bad capacitor or start device.

Think of the board as the timer, it just tells the comp to start and stop. This one is still even a standard Embraco reciprocating compressor so its 120v to compressor instead of the variable voltage linear comps we're seeing now. I'd check amp draw on the compressor to see if it is a bad compressor. Diag is pretty much the same as the past. There will be onboard computer diagnostics from the front panel however. They may not be any use in this case.

See if this link will work for you, I think it's the one.

Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately, it says my appliantology subscription has expired. Let me know if you have a different link or can send it to me.
