Refrigerator and freezer are working fine except for a problem today with the icemaker. The ice maker water turned on and kept running for a while filling up the ice bucket. It wouldn't turn off until the freezer door was opened so I left the door open, shut the water supply valve off and emptied the bucket out. Then later on I turned the water back on and it didn't flow to the icemaker this time. Left the supply valve on all day and it never did turn on again to fill the ice mold. The freezer got to below zero so it should have filled the ice mold. The water supply from the wall is fine. It's something going on with the icemaker I think. Couldn't see the inlet line that is behind the ice maker so I'm not sure if it's frozen. Ice level bar was in the down position the entire time. Prior to this the icemaker had been working fine, there was plenty of ice in the bucket.

Any advice on how to diagnose knows this?

So I try to defrosting the freezer today in hopes that the water inlet line to the icemaker was frozen but that didn't help. Also, there is a knocking noise coming from the icemaker about every 15 minutes or so. It sounds almost like ice dropping into the bucket except there is no ice to be found. I know it's coming from the icemaker because I unplugged it and then knocking stopped.

So I have an occasional knocking noise coming from the icemaker and no water going into the icemaker. Any ideas?

I'd try replacing it, they are pretty cheap.

Before replacing the icemaker I decided to test the water inlet valve using some online instructions. The instructions said to use a multimeter and measure the resistance between the terminals. There are 4 terminals total. When I measure the resistance of the 2 terminals on the brown side which connects to the icemaker tube I got 3 ohms and the 2 terminals on the yellow side which goes to the water dispenser were 263 ohms. Water dispenser is working fine too. The instructions said the resistance should be between 200 and 500 ohms but they were generic instructions not specific to this part number. So does this sound to you like I should replace the water inlet valve first because the resistance on the brown side is so low? Part number is WPW10420083.
