I have an old (1950s era) Sears Coldspot refrigerator. It had been working fine for years, but when I went to get something out of the fridge, everything was frozen. I pulled out the thermostat, and found that the resistance across it ranges from 1.5 ohms (off) to 0.3 ohms (coldest setting). If I stick the end of the capillary in some ice water, I can get it to turn off around the off setting, and back on around the defrost setting. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I'd expect it should ALWAYS be open at the off setting, right? Would you suspect a faulty thermostat as well? If so, do you have any ideas on how to find a replacement one - I can't seem to locate anything in any of my searches. I've found the Ranco A30 series thermostats appear similar, but there are numerous temperature ranges, so I'm still not sure what the appropriate part would be.
Thanks! - Chris
