I have had a repairman out twice over the years for the same problem. Refrigerate section is fine freezer is freezing some things but not ice cream. Both times he replaced a small part and thawed the coils in the back of the freezer. Last time was 2 years ago. Is it probably the same thing? Should I just give up and buy a new one? Which kinds have the least repairs? Side-by-side, freezer on top freezer on bottom or....?

Karenszoo, you would need to provide more info on your unit such as model number and are all the fans running in fridge and freezer. you will have to diagnose some of the symptoms yourself before anyone can help you. It sounds like you have a problem with the evaporator in the freezer and it could be several things, you would have to take the back panel off and describe what you find. Since your fridge is working it seems like you have a newer unit with two evaps and a control board, the fault can be there also. Need more info to help.
