I thought I'd post up my experience troubleshooting the problem I had with my Kitchen Aid under-counter refrigerator/freezer drawer. First, the light went out, so I ordered a new LED light. Installed it, no effect, so I returned the $100 LED. Next, the whole control panel went dark. So I called the experts here, and they advised me to feel along the cable that connects the control panel on the drawer to the side of the cabinet. Sure enough, there was a break in the cable, caused by the drawer rubbing on it as it moved in and out over the years. It seems this was a design defect, and that the original short cable has been replaced with a longer cable which is not susceptible to the rubbing which causes the cable to fail. I ordered one - called a HARNS-WIRE and installed it, and the problem is fixed. There was nothing wrong with the control panel or the light. The installation is straightforward, as solid instructions come along with the part. However, those instructions are not posted to the listing for the part, so it was a bit of a "take it on faith" that I could do the job. The hardest part of the installation was simply getting the drawer out. But with the patient help of a customer service rep named Savannah here on Appliance Parts Pros, I finally figured out that the right side drawer slides had different release tabs than the left, and that the right side tabs had to be depressed first to be able to pull the draw out another inch or so to expose the release tabs on the left side drawer guides. This little nugget of information was nowhere to be found in either the instruction guide for the part, or in the service manual which Savannah emailed to me. Best of luck if you are faced with the same issue, and I'm pretty sure that if you have this model, you will be.
