My Kitchen Aide Fridge (small side-by-side) has become noisy, and seems to be getting noisier daily.

The noise sounds like a fan, but I suppose it could also be a short-stroke compressor. Sometimes it is almost silent but much of the time it can be easily heard two rooms away. The kitchen is above the basement, and I can hear the noise when I'm down stairs. (I've owned this fridge since new and I'm familiar with its normal sounds.)

Both sides continue to maintain set temperature +/- 1F. (Freezer is 1.5F measured from first shelf below ice maker.)

A secondary (probably unrelated) problem: the freezer's digital temperature display is dark; fridge side is OK and accurate).
