Here is how it all started. The ice maker quit working so I went ahead and replaced the whole ice maker. Still nothing. I jumpered out the Thermostat (T-H) and I can get the motor on the ice maker to turn. Pull the jumper and nothing happens.

My thought is the freezer is not cold enough. It does freeze things but maybe not to the point of closing the thermostat. I have the setting on as cold as I can get it with no luck.

The compressor does cycle off and on (seems the same as before) and the fridge is cold.

What can I do to get the freezer colder?

Is the evap in the back of the freezer and can it be iced up?

TIA

See the attached for the unit's tech sheet.

Check the freezer temperature.
It should be between 0 and5 degrees F.

You may have to replace a thermistor or control board.
Run the diagnostics.

It is possible but I doubt it. When the evaporator coil is iced up (no defrost) usually the compressor runs all the time except when the unit goes through a defrost cycle.

I ended up pulling off the back cover last night and the evap was not frozen up at all. I put it all back together and put a cup of water in the freezer. 10 hours later the cup of water is a frozen but still no ice.

I need to put a thermometer in the freezer to get an actual temp.

I am not quit understanding how to test the thermistor in the service bulletin. Can you clarify?

TIA

Not really just try it and it should make sense when you are doing it.

I got the bulletin to make sense after reading it again.
1) Pass
2) Pass
3) I can hear the fan motor come on
4) I can hear the compressor and fan come on
5) Not Sure
6) Sounds like I need to take the evap cover off to take voltage reading on this?

Is the defrost heater and Bi-Metal the same part?

TIA

You should measure the freezer temperature first.

If the freezer is cold enough then the defrost thermostat should be closed and the heater shuld heat up. Just be careful to not burn your fingers.

I cannot say as the defrost thermostat may have a permanent connection to the defrost heater. I can say that they are available as separate items for replacement

Note that the Sears parts site has part breakdown diagrams. They just do not share then with other part vendors.
