Default Hotpoint nightmare
Model Number: ccc18habbww   Brand: Hotpoint   Age: 5 - 10 years

Good evening, hopefully someone can help me. I bought a house with an older model Hotpoint refrigerator in is. I see now why they left it behind. It has worked fine for the past 8 months now problems. It was making a really loud noise, kinda like a plane crashing, and then it would quit. It did this a couple times in the evening so then I went and shut the temperature dial to off. This solved the problem but now my freezer works fine and the fridge isn't cooling at all. The compressor is working and the condenser fan is working as well. Can someone help me with this please!? Thanks!

Looks like you closed the damper control and shut off the cold air from the freezer into the fresh food.

I'm not able to provide more accurate advise due to the model number you posted is incorrect.

Verify and repost it, please.

Gene.

Thanks.. That is the model number that is on the sticker inside the freezer door.. I know.. Something is wrong because whenever I put that model number into a search engine it comes up wrong. Is the damper control just the little plastic valve that covers the air output to the fridge because that is open.. Unless there is something else in there.

I'm not able to tell you how it looks in your fridge because there are thousands different models with different controls layout.

You have to look for the model number on the name plate which is probably on the bottom of the door frame. The sticker in the door does not have the right information.

Well, that is the only number I can find. There is a serial number. What do hotpoint model numbers normally start with?

The model number and the serial number should be on the same name plate.

Most of the Hotpoint model numbers in refrigeration started with "H".

Default Fridge working again, but for how long?

Ok, I unplugged my hotpoint refridgerator for the weekend and then plugged it in on Sunday. It works fine! This leads me to believe that it was frozen up inside and not allowing the cold air to move from the freezer to the fridge. Does this sound like a defrost timer problem? If so, it is very easy to change and I had it off and contemplated changing it but didn't want to spend extra on a fridge that might not be worth fixing. Now I believe it is. Please help.

Possible there is a problem with the defrost system. You can find the complete troubleshooting instructions in one of my previous posts: Freezer is fine, refrigerator is too warm.

You still have to find the right model number of the fridge because without it almost not possible to find the right replacement parts.
