Hello,
Freezer gets down to only about 55 Deg. Fridge compartment no cooling at all. No ice build-up, evaporator fan running. Cannot detect the compressor kicking in. I suspect the defrost cycle is on constantly but not sure which component controls that. Is my asssumption correct?
Thanks,
Gene

Here are your parts
Parts for ET18LK - AppliancePartsPros.com

You will have to choose one from the4 matching model numbers section.

If the evaporator fan is on then it is not in a defrost cycle.

Is the condenser/compressor fan on?
Is the compressor on? You can usually hear it but also should be able to feel it vibrating.

If on is it cycling or is it on all the time except when the unit goes through a defrost cycle?

If it is cycling it is probably a control thermostat problem.

If on constantly, remove the cover in the freezer and check the evaporator coils. They should have a fairly even coating of frost on them.
