I have a Maytag refrigerator with French style doors. The water dispenser has always worked great until two weeks ago when I ran it while the doors were open. While the doors were open it dispensed water for a few seconds and then stopped. Since that time there is a loud grinding noise coming from the water filter housing when we run the water dispenser, and water flow is very low.

The water dispenser works fine (no noise and strong pressure) with the bypass head installed.

The noise returns if I reinstall the water filter. The water filter is relatively new (4 months old).

1. Did the water tank/head assembly get permanently damaged from running the dispenser while the door was open?

2. Before replacing it what other components should I be checking for obstructions?

Thanks
