Hi,
I've a GE mini fridge (GMR05BLPWWC) with freezer compartment. It has been working fine until I manually defrosted the freezer several days ago. Since then, whenever the compressor starts to run, I can hear two loud popping/cracking sounds which seem to emanate from the outer case (Not totally sure - I tried knocking on the outer case and it kinda matches).
There is great consistency to the timing of the noise - the first pop is very close to 1 minute after the compressor starts, and the second pop is 40 seconds after the first. I tried also to open the door as the compressor starts, and the noise is still there. Lifting the front of the fridge has no use either. The popping is loud enough to give me a shock, and I'd imagine it can wake somebody up from light sleep.
One thing interesting though, is I tried turning the thermostat off 10 minutes after the compressor runs, and then restarting it 3 minutes later. It didn't give me that two pops only in this occasion. (A normal cycle is roughly 30 min on, 30 min off)
I wonder what could be the cause of this - there wasn't any noise of this sort before defrosting, and I'm pretty sure I didn't screw up anything during that.
[In terms of what I can do with it... is pretty limited since the fridge is provided by my university residence, so I can't (and don't have the skills to) tamper with it.]
Thanks - any help much appreciated!
