OK, this is an old fridge that I have as my extra in the garage (mostly for beer). Anyway, once a few months ago, it just stopped working. After transferring everything, I messed with the control knobs and it came back on. It quit again a couple weeks ago and will not come back on. Power is on, the light bulb is lit but there is no sound, nothing going on. In reading the other posts, it seems like this may be the thermostat/cold control? Is this true, and how does one test the old part before I order a new one? I do have a volt meter/ohm meter...

Here are your parts
Parts for Whirlpool ED22PWXAW10 Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.com

Measure across the contacts of the control thermostat (item 9 in section 11).
Should be 0 ohms.

Be sure the unit is unplugged when you do this

OK, I just did and it says 0 ohms, as it should be. What next?

See the attachment for the tech sheet.

Try to force the unit into a defrost cycle to see if the defrost heater comes on.

Could be that the adaptive defrost board is shot.

What is the temperature in the garage?

If it is too cold then the unit will not work correctly.

I finally got around to following the directions. The relay clicks twice, which according to the directions means "check for bi-metal open". So, it appeasr that I need to know the next step.

By the way, the temperature in the garage is now about 50 degrees, plus or minus.

50 degrees should not cause problems for the fridge cooling.

To check the bi-metal (defrost thermostat) you need a meter.
It should be closed when frozen so you have to hold it's metal face onto an ice cube or freeze it in another fridge.
Since the freezer is not cold you would not expect it to be closed (0 ohms)

The double click would be the unit turning on defrost and then coming out of defrost at which point the compressor should of come on.
Since it did not I would replace the adaptive defrost board.

Note that I am off to the lake for a few days later today so will not be available.
