I just replaced the starter device after original broke down. I knew to replace it because it rattled. Now that new one is pushed back onto compressor and wiring harness on new starter device, the compressor 'kicks' on, and re fridge is cooling.

However, compressor is real hot to touch. Fan is rotating counter clockwise and drawing air away from compressor. If fan is to cool compressor, why it is drawing air away? Is this why compressor is hot to touch? Currently, the back cover is off and re fridge is sitting outside.

Try a portable fan on it to cool the compressor.

My bad...I learned that you MUST!!! have the rear cover on the back before the fan can suck air from the front of the fridge, and pull it over condenser and past the compressor. Without the back cover screwed on, then the fan cannot create a suction affect, and the fan air would be escaping out back and pulling air from rear.

So for those that are replacing starter device, and firing up fridge fir first time, please make sure rear cover is back on so condenser fan can pull the air from front.
