For your annual fridge preventative maintenance - along with cleaning the coils - especially those dust collecting ones when they are mounted under the fridge - and wiping down the door seals - I suggest adding in cleaning the condensate drain grommet if the fridge has one. I had to clean mine yesterday on a 4 year old bottom mount fridge.

I think it would be easier to clean that grommet once a year than to go through the hassle of taking the freezer apart to defrost and clean a frozen drain issue.

The grommet on my Amana/Whirlpool/Fridgidair is in the back compartment in the middle - top. In this photo I am pointing to its location - although in the photo the black grommet is removed for cleaning.

Here is a photo of the grommet once it has been cleaned. I had to use 'goof off' - a latex paint remover/cleaner - to remove the very sticky crud on the grommet.
