My freezer is not getting cold enough to freeze everything. Some things freeze, like ice cubes, but other items never do- like Flavor-ice pops, and the ice cream is mushy. I feel like it has been getting gradually worse.

Yesterday I pulled it out and cleaned the coils in back and saw there was some water in the drain pan.

Today it is the same.

I hear a fan on and feel cold air in the freezer but the temperature is not right.

I have both the fridge and freezer on highest setting. I would normally never have the fridge that high since things would sometimes freeze in there too, so I am thinking that is not running as it used to either.

Any help or advice would be appreciated

I just defrosted it too- although I thought it was a self defrost model- it did appear to have some ice by the fins in back of the freezer.

Here are your parts
Parts for Frigidaire FRT18G6JW2 Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is the tech sheet
http://manuals.frigidaire.com/p...f/Anderson/241588203.pdf

What is the actual freezer temperature?
It should be between 0 and 5 degrees F.

Is the compressor running all the time or cycling on/off as it used to?
You can usually hear the compressor but should also be able to feel it vibrating.
Note that the unit should go into a defrost cycle which lasts about 30 minutes every 8 hours of compressor run time.

Did the unit get down to correct operating temperature after you did the manual defrost?
If it is a defrost problem then after you do a manual defrost it should run OK until the ice/frost builds up again on the evaporator coils.

The evaporator/freezer fan should be on whenever the compressor is on as they are wired in parallel.

If the compressor is on all the time other than when the unit goes through a defrost cycle remove the rear cover in the freezer so you can inspect the evaporator coils. they should have a fairly even coating of frost.

If they only have frost in one area (usually where the freon enters the coils) then it is probably a sealed system problem and will be an expensive repair.

Thanks for getting back to me. I thought I was replying via "quick reply" but I think I lost that bit.

The refrigerator seems even a little less cold after the manual defrost.

I have some partially frozen cubes but nothing frozen solid.

The main compartment might be a little warmer too.

The fan still blows- but the air is less cold than it should be. I think the compressor is cycling the same as before as there was a time when it seemed to be off and now it is on again.

When you say "expensive repair" what should I expect?

I will attempt to remove rear cover in freezer later to inspect the coils

This could have been when it went through a defrost cycle.
Normal cycling would be on/off every half hour or so to a couple hours.

$500.00 plus

If it is a sealed system problem there is no use adding freon until the leak is found and repaired. This may involve replacing the compressor or the evaporator coils.

Also there is a possibility that the repair person will not be able to find the leak and then you end up with a non repairable unit but have to pay several hundred dollars to find that out.
