Default Frigidaire side by side ice maker/freezer issues
Model Number: frs6lr5ew3   Brand: Frigidaire   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Hope someone can help with my issue...first started noticing drinks in back of fridge would have little pieces of ice a couple months ago, thought fridge was turned up too high, turned it down..seemed to help. Next, icemaker stopped making ice. Thought it might be a bad water inlet valve, replaced it, had ice pieces in the water line, got those out still same problem. Checked icemaker, doesnt seem to be bad. Now I've noticed that some spots are freezing in the freezer, but some are not..ice cream soft etc...took cover off, coils are not frozen, but there is a chunk of ice sitting right on the thermometer, but the coils are fine. Was thinking of replacing the thermometer. The compressor and all fans are running fine too. This is beyond frustrating. Any tips would be appreciated.

Here are your parts
Parts for Frigidaire FRS6LR5EW3 Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.com

I am not sure what you are calling the "thermometer"

There are two control thermostats and a defrost thermostat in this unit.

What is the freezer temperature? Should be between 0 and 5 degrees F.
What is the fresh food temperature. Should be around 40 degrees F.

Was there a fairly enven coating of frost on the evaporator coils?
The above should be checked after the comptressor has run for about 30 minutes checking it during or shortly after a defrost cycle will give the wrong diagnosis.

I meant thermostat. Mind is frazzled dealing with this issue. The freezer temp is 0, fresh food is temp is 47. There was a fairly even coating of ice on the coils, however when I looked at the coils this morning there was a little thicker coating on the first 3 top coils with of course the very thick coating of ice on the thermostat that is directly above the coils. Hope that made sense. Thx for the reply too...

Sorry for missing your last post.

Is the damper between the freezer and fresh food section open.
It regulates the amount of cold air entering the fresh food section.

Below is a manual which should help.

Damper is open and freezer is now at 28 degrees. Fresh food temp is hovering around 47, 48 degrees. There is also an area of ice forming at the back of the freezer on the back wall.

OK this is different, your freezer temperature is way too high.

Earlier you said "The compressor and all fans are running fine too.", did you mean that it is cycling normally or just that it is running?

Is it on all the time other than when the unit goes through a defrost cycle?

Below is a good link for this type of problem.
http://www.applianceaid.com/refriger...old-enough.php

Your earlier post said the evaporator coils had a fairly even coating of frost but
a second look showed only frost/ice at the top.
It is important to check the coils after the compressor has run for at least an hour. If you check then shortly after or during a defrost cycle you will come to the wrong conclusion.
The link has example pictures of a sealed system problem.

Compressor is steadily running, it is definitely not cycling normally at all. I will check out the link you sent. Seems to me all these companies are making products that are not worth a crap. This refrigerator is only 8 years old. I am used to getting a lot longer life out of a unit than this before having problems. Thanks for the link...going there now.
