I own a Whirlpool Gold Series double door refrigerator.
It cools food contents well but the motor keep running continuously.
This is what happens: the motor stops and restarts immediately barely a second later. Then half a minute later the same happens, the motor stops and restarts immediately.
I vacuumed the cooling coils at the bottom of the frodge because they were full of dust but it did not stop the issue.
I power cycled the fridge once but the problem remained.

Turn the cold control up all the way, if it runs all the time, you probably have a bad cold control.

Hi
Yes i turned the freezer temperature all the way up from zero to 6 Fahrenheit and the motor finally stopped. I then went backward to 1 and waited.after 20 mins or so the motor resumed and never stopped until i pushed the control back up to 6. Then i left it at 6 degrees. I waited about 30 mins and sure enough the motor resumed and it does not stop, it goes for 3 mins, stops for a fraction of a second, resumes immediately. It does this indefinitely.

With the cold control turned up, measure the freezer temperature.

Seems like you have an overheating compressor, or a compressor failing possibly from refrigerant contamination.

Well thanks for this diagnosis, this is really helpful. I wonder how much it would cost to repair... does not sound good
