This am, opened fridge and temp (usually programmed to recommended 37 degrees was showing 40 degrees. Freezer was displaying 19 degrees.

Can you advise this resident dummy where I might start???

This fridge/freezer is almost 10 years old. It has power and is on. I try to reset the temps using "set" button which shows recommended temps listed above.

I suspect this has been going on at least overnight in the freezer because some of the items had partially thawed.

Any suggestions where this dummy should start?

Check for frost on the freezer back panel. If none, check to see if the compressor is running.
