Our Maytag side-by-side refrigerator MSB2154ARW is over 10 years old. It has been working flawlessly, but then lately there was water leaking on the floor. Freezer and fresh food section were cooling fine.
First Repairman checked it and added refrigerant, cleaning it at the back (where compressor and fan are). The temperature controls do not make any change in the operation times of the refrigerator.
Now, the compressor keeps working most of the time, seven and a half hours straight and then only stopping for the defrost cycle for about 25 minutes and then again running for another seven hours. There is ice building up on the coils close to the fan and the one close to the compressor.
The second repairman on his first visit adjusted the pressure of the refrigerant (result: not change at all on the cycle described) and then on his second visit said the problem was the temperature control assembly that we have now already replaced with an original part without change on the compressor cycle described.
No matter what position you use for the temperature settings (1, 5 or 9) the compressor will only stop on the defrost cycle after seven and a half hours running.

Put a thermometer in the freezer and check the temperature.
It should be 0 to 5 degrees F.

If the unit cannot reach the correct temperature and the compressor is running all the time then it is not a control problem. The compressor is trying to get down to set point but cannot for some reason.

Check the frost pattern on the evaporator/freezer coils.
It should be fairly even over the entire coil.
If it is just in one area usually where the freon enters the coils then you have a sealed system problem.
This will be an expensive repair as you will need a pro and it may require replacing the compressor etc. Usually it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit.
Below is some info on this, see the 3 example pictures about half way down the page.

Since you have had two techs check the freon/compressor pressures I am going to assume the freon fill level is OK.
I am also assuming that the condenser/compressor coils are clean, that the kick plate and rear cover vents are clean, that the condenser fan is running OK and also that the evaporator fan is running OK.
All of theses are things that should have been checked by the techs.

An outside possibility would be a large door seal leak.
This will first of all let warm air into the unit making it difficult fot it to reach set point. Also since the room aid is moist it would cause more than normal frost to condense on the evaporator coils. This reduces the cooling efficiency by reducing the air flow through the coils.

Check that the seals are clean.
Check that the look OK.
Check the hing side of the seal to be sure that it is not grabbing and twisting when the door is closed. A light coating of white lithium grease or vaseline often fixes this.
Take a 2 inch stip of paper and place it between the seal and frame. Then shut the door and pull the paper out to check the seal. Work your way around both doors every 6 inches or so.

Note that frost on the pipes cat the compressor can be a symptom of too much freon but there can also be other causes.
