Not a question, but just thought I would share my experiences of swapping out an ice maker on a Samsung RSG257AARS/XAA.

The ice maker has not worked properly since we bought the fridge 4 years ago. All previous repairs were done under warranty, but unfortunately I was never home to see how it was done. Anyway the ice maker finally gave up, so I ordered a new one through Appliance Pros. It arrived literally as soon as I hung up the phone (!!).

Now to install it.........

Remove all the screws that you can see. The cable from the ice maker runs up and through a hole in a molded plastic piece that you must remove before you can unplug the old one and plug in the new one. And this is where we got stumped.....even after you have removed the screws this plastic plate still does not come off. It is loose and you can move it, but it will not come off.

I called Samsung and they were useless, saying that a qualified technician was required to remove it. No help there then. After a while and some more research we decided that brute force was required.

The only way to remove it is to jimmy it off. There are clips still holding it in. If you take a flat head screw driver and insert it on the left side of the plate and work it up the side with a bit of force the plate pops off and bingo you can unplug the old ice maker and plug in the new one.

The only problem was that I was sent an ice maker that had the wrong plug on it. However Appliance Parts Pros made it more than right by picking up the return shipping and taking 20% off the price. Simply great customer service.
