Heard clicking noise from unit on Thursday that sounded like the oven heating/cooling. I think that is the compressor trying to come on, but after a few seconds of humming and dimming of the interior light, it just clicks back off again. Landlady thinks its the thermostat. Sounds like the compressor is stuck to me. Ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Steven

Your model number is incomplete.

I agree with you.

You could check the condenser fan.
On most units it is wired in parallel with the compressor so if it is on the compressor is on.

Sounds like the compressor may be over heating and tripping the thermal protect.
Then when the compressor cools down, the protect resets and it tries to start again.

This can be either a compressor or a compressor start device problem.

You could try checking the compressor with a meter, see the below site.
How To Fix a Refrigerator - Appliance Repair Guide - ACME HOW TO.com

Note that this will tell you if a compressor is bad but does not definitively tell you that a compressor is good as it may have other internal problems.

If the windings check out OK then I would try a new start device.
