I have a TRG20SPHL Amana 20 energy saver refrigerator. The ice maker in the freezer does not produce ice. Then water line going to the fridge has water and pressure going to the fridge. It does not come out of the valve going to the ice maker. Is it common for these valves to fail? Is there a switch in the ice maker itself that shuts off this water valve that could be the problem? Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

If the icemaker will cycle but you don’t get water replace the water valve. Look inside the tube that feeds water to the icemaker and make sure it isn’t clogged with ice. If it is still replace the water valve after you remove the ice. Refrigerator repair guide

I can blow thru the line so it doesnt seems like its clogged. But isnt there something that shuts off the water when the ice maker has enough of it inside the freezer? How do i know that the water valve is shot and not anything that tells the water valve to shut off?

Typically, if the icemaker will complete the cycle and water doesn’t enter the icemaker the water valve is bad. But yes it could still be the icemaker. I can’t exactly tell what type of icemaker your refrigerator has by the parts diagram but I am reasonably sure it is a Whirlpool type icemaker. Take the front off the icemaker and you should see holes marked with letters (if you don’t see the holes you may have a different style icemaker let me know). Make a jumper wire and place one end of the jumper wire in the hole marked L and the other in the hole marked V. This should energize the water valve. If water doesn’t enter the icemaker you can be almost positive the valve is bad. Provided you have water coming to the icemaker. Now there could still be a loose connection between the icemaker and the valve although this would be very unlikely. The only way to know for sure is to check for voltage at the water valve with the jumper in place. If you have voltage and there is no water you know for sure the valve is bad. I was looking at the pic that is on this website and the watervalve looks like the one thats on the fridge. The ice maker does not have any holes marked with letters on the front. Does the valve run on straight 110V power? If that is the case I could try to make a jumper wire and run it from the wall i guess. Any other suggestions? Is there any info that i could try to find on the fridge to make this any easier?

You could run straight from the wall but it is unnecessary and a little dangerous. If you attempt this be careful. I do not recommend doing so but it is up to you.

I was thinking that was the type icemaker you had. Ok let’s start over. I am assuming that you see two gears on the front of the icemaker. On the outside of the icemaker you should see an ejector arm that ejects the ice. Pull on that arm until the gears on the front of the icemaker start turning then you should be able to let go and the gears will continue to run. Then get behind the refrigerator and check for voltage. The water should get voltage for the last few seconds of the icemaker cycle. If it does get voltage and water doesn’t flow replace the water valve. If it doesn’t get voltage replace the icemaker.

If you don’t have a voltage tester just replace the water valve if the icemaker will cycle.

I do see two gears on the outside of the ice maker and an ejector arm. I rotate and pull on that are an nothing happens. I have seen the ice maker rotate before thou. It has done it a couple times since ive been messing with it, but seems random. I took the front panel with the gears off and looked around in there. If i pull that arm towards me it doesnt look like that would do anything except compress the return spring. Is it supposed to hit a switch of some sort? When you say "pull on that arm", do you mean pull towards me or rotate it the way the arm is moved when ejecting ice or turning off the icemaker? When i rotate that arm then bring it back down, is the icemaker supposed to turn to eject ice?

With the gears on and the icemaker back together rotate the ejector arm as if the icemaker was going through a cycle. Once you turn it manually a little it should start turning on its own.

Reading your post I am not 100% sure we are talking about the same arm. I am talking the white arm the forces the ice out the ice mold. Not the little wire is on the side of the icemaker that goes up and down. Just making sure!
