Hi
I have an old kenmore freezer model #106.8241541 that quit working. I noticed a smell of burnt wiring. When I checked the relay and over load it had gotten real hot. The compressor checks out ok with the ohm meter. The part#s for the relay and overload are not available anymore. Is there any kind of kit that would work to get it going again? It has r12 refrig and has only two wires to it,red and white.
Thanks for any help

Ohm checks on compressor windings will not detect bad windings. Check for continuity to ground on any compressor pin.

Thanks for the reply. Should the ohms reading be infinite or is there a range that would be ok?
Thanks again

There should be no resistance to ground. If ok, you can order a start device URO41. The common compressor pin is usually the top pin, start pin, bottom left, run pin, bottom right. I assume the original start device was a coil type, is that true?

That is correct, it had a small round black thing that had a red wire from it to the coil. The round thing was burnt and crumbled when i took it out.
Thanks
