Removed panel in freezer. Coils were not frozen however the part above the coils and to the right of the thermosat was. No idea what this part is, can't find on diagram. One end is in grey soft plastic that looks melted on????? Anyway tested heating element 27 ohms. Tried to test thermostat but freezer already started defrosting so used ice and read 56 ohms which was temp in freezer. Not sure if thermosat is bad as test wasn't done "frozen" and the freezer's torn apart, can't test other than on ice now. Is therm bad or can I test some other parts before I buy a new therm. Also this happened 2 weeks ago before we went out of town, at that time all fans, all noises in general stoppped. Came back and are now dealing with this. Not sure if the fans not running at all is relevent of not. We have 3 kiddos and need our fridge! Thanks a bunch!

If only partial frost in the freezer, you probably have a refrigerant leak/ bad compressor. Remove the back panel and verify compressor is warm and vibrating and the condenser motor running.
