Have a 7 cubft chest freezer. It stopped working, compressor was not starting. cap was a 10 uf 150v so I replaced it with a 200 uf 400v cap thinking that the start cap gets switched out once the motor reaches speed. the compressor started and worked for about 10 seconds and shut off. I started again and removed the starter cap once the motor was running and it stayed running. i thought the started cap would be switched out at speed, so why wouldn't this larger cap work? Is the switch/contacts bad and not switching it out? I do here a click as the motor spins down. is it possible that the start cap is also used as a run cap, from the schematic it looks that way but its hard to see.
