I'm trying to buy an upright Kenmore freezer from a lady on Craigslist. Her reason for selling is that "it kicks off every time we have a storm and loses power and has to be reset".

After quizzing her it appears that she has it plugged up using an extension cord. She said she "resets it" by unplugging it for 10-15 mins and then plugs it back in, and everything is fine until they lose power again.

I asked if it trips the breaker and she has to reset the breaker, and she said said "not usually".

She lives in an older mobile home, so could the wiring in the home be part of the problem?

I know that's not a lot to go on, but can anyone give me a list of possible fixes?

If she's not being straight with me, which wouldn't be a total surprise, and it has nothing to do with the electrical current being interrupted, just what could cause a freezer to "kick off" like that?
