When we moved in, the line at the hinge of the freezer door got cut. I am assuming this line is for water through the door only and is separate from the icemaker line. Can I hook up water to the fridge for the sole purpose of making ice? Will water spill out onto the floor or will water spill onto the floor if the water button is pushed? How hard would it be to replace the line in the door or is there some kind of patch kit?

This is a low pressure line, you can splice it with a plastic coupler available at Lowes.
