Yesterday freezer compartment completely thawed and ice in icemaker melted. Later freezer started freezing and icemaker started making ice. Day later, thawing repeated and after a few hours freezer again is freezing and ice maker is again making ice. Thanks for any help. Andec

Most probable problem is the motherboard in the back WR55X10942
Check the back of it behind the big, power relay, might find bad solder joints.
If ok, check the resistance of the evaporator thermistor, should be around 65 Kohm at freezer temperature of below zero

thank you richappy,
If I disconnect the defrost heater, and manually defrost, is it possible for the refrigerator to still function temporarily?

Yes, but just leave the wires on the defrost heater, no need to remove.

Richappy,
You were right. one of the connections was burnt on the back of the motherboard. I resoldered, and it works fine now. Thanks!

The board in that area is easy to re-solder, but good job anyway.
