HELP PLEASE!!
Whirlpool Gold side by side OK so the model # gd5dhaxvao7 returns no results anywhere? returns similar models but not mine.
My problem is the compressor will turn on and run for about 5 seconds then turns off. kicks back on awhile later for a few more seconds then stops. Fan runs lights come on. I've checked the compressor with ohms meter all terminals check out OK. Its not shorted out. How would I test the start switch? Would that even be the problem? The relay does not have polarity(What I assume is the relay). Unless I'm dumb that cold be my 1st problem though 2 things that mount on the compressor (what I assume because I cant find model on internet) start switch with overload and relay. Where could I purchase these parts? Also there seems to be corrosion on high side lines (thin copper line). If anyone has checked the Freon levels would there be a bullet needle valve on low side? I don't see any shrador valves or any type of test port?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Pry off from the side of the compressor. Measure the ohms between the device compressor bottom terminals. I around 5 ohms it's good, if not order a new one on this site's parts W10189190

If you had the device unplugged when you tested it it's ok.
Ohm testing the compressor winding resistance will not tell if the windings are ok
In your case, the compressor is probably bad, drawing high current as it starts warming up, amprobe would confirm.

Well boo that. Any way of bypassing relay and over load? Just for testing purposes.

You must use the start device and overload. Any bypass will burn out the compressor.
You might have a bad overload in the compressor start device, although rather rare.

Thanks Rich. Ill take take your advice as an expert and NOT bypass it. Upon further review. I plugged it back it for approx 3 minutes pulled of start switch again and and discovered it was very hot. has mild burnt smell and rattles a little bit, but still get the 3.4 ohms reading on it. I guess my question is; is it likely to be the compressor if its only three years old? Also If I try replacing start switch and does not fix the issue will the item be refundable? I guess Ill be getting an am prob To verify the compressor isn't drawing to many amps and causing the overload to trip. With my luck it is the compressor and I just don't want that to be the issue.

I would try replacing the start device, just note how the old one is wired up.
