I am replacing the capacitor and overload relay. Do I need to replace also the drier. If so, is there any special procedure in setting the new drier?

Hello,

What exactly is wrong with the refrigerator?

The overload is the part of the compressor start components while the drier is the part of the sealed system.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Parts for LG LFX21971ST Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.com

Hi Gene, actually I have to replace the motor compressor because it doesn't run continuously (stop and go), so I bought a replacement motor compressor and I also bought separately the compatible capacitor and overload relay. By the way my unit (Lg LFX 21971ST) is in the Philippines and the LG technician there asked me to also buy a drier ( I'm not sure if he knows what he is doing because there is no similar model in the Philippines and this is the first time that he will handle this kind of refrigerator model). So, do I need a new drier part or I will just use the original one already with the unit.

Thank you.

Your technician was right. The filter drier has to be replaced every time when the sealed system was open, especial if the compressor was replaced.
