My coils in the freezer are frozen over and the refrigerator side is not cooling. I have unplugged, defrosted, and plugged back in twice. with the problem reoccurring a few days later. Reading the forums it seems to be a defrost problem. I have located the defrost heater and thermostat but i cannot for the life of me figure out where the timer is to perform the check on it. I have looked at the parts website and I don't see a defrost timer for my model number. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are your parts
Parts for Frigidaire FFHS2322MS0 Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.com

See the attachment for the tech sheet.

Your unit does not use a defrost timer.
Defrost control is by the main control board.

So if it doesn't have a timer how should I proceed to check which part is not working? Is there a way to check the heater, thermostat, control board independently so that I know which part to replace? I cannot figure out how to force the unit to go into defrost mode because there is no timer. there is nothing in the manual about it either.

The procedure to force a defrost is on the first page of the tech sheet (NOTE:)

First remove the evaporator cover in the freezer so you can see the coils.
Do not let them de-ice.

Manually force a defrost cycle, see the tech sheet. When the fans and compressor turn off, you are in defrost

Now check the defrost heater to see if it is on.
Be careful you do not want to burn your fingers.
If the heater is on then the board needs replacing.

If not on.
Unplug the unit.
Remove the wire for one side of the heating element (Item 14 in the System Parts section ) from the wiring and measure it for continuity, usually around 20 ohms or so.

If the heater is OK
Remove one wire to the defrost thermostat (Item 21 in the System Parts section ) and measure it, should be 0 ohms when frozen. Note that it opens just above freezing so must be frozen to check it. Also inspect it, if it is bulged at all replace it even if it measures OK.

If both the above are OK then odds are the control board is toast,

ok, so i assume the the fresh food light is what is in the picture below, correct? I just want to make sure because I have done what the instructions say, depress five times in six seconds and nothing happens. The fans and compressor do not shut off. I just want to make sure I am doing it correctly. The digital display in the fresh food section still has numbers displayed. I have read some places that in manual defrost mode these will say "d" and "f" or something. Not sure if I am doing something wrong or this means there is another problem.UserPostedImage

As long as this is the switch which turns the light off/on in the fresh food section then it is the correct switch.
