Default Refridge/Freezer--cold--but Not Cold Enough GE PSI23NGMB BB
Model Number: GE PSI23NGMB BB   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Not really sure of the age... I have a GE PSI23NGMB BB Refrig/Freezer that came with the house I just bought....

It has been empty for about a year. When we 1st turned on the unit--- it would freeze soda cans in the fridge. That happened for 3-4 days---with little use (we were still living at the old house)--so it was opened every 1-2 days. We turned up the temp... and that fixed it. Now that we are living in the new house ---we can not get it cold enough. With both Refridge/Freezer set to the coldest setting the digital read out shows Freezer 22, Refrig, 40 degrees Fahrenheit. It really does not budge much from that.

My wife said the freezer is not keeping stuff frozen solid... "half frozen"

I tried unplugging it for 10 minutes.... I found 1 small PC board in the back... took off as many cables as I could and put them back--- I did not expect miracles---but It is all I could do on my own. Any advice on what I can do or replace? Just bought the house----not a good time to need to buy a new one.

Thanks in advance...

This site has been a lot of help.

Pull out the back freezer panel and describe the frost pattern, heavy, complete frost, or light, partial.

Question Cold but not cold enough... Continued

Thanks for responding...

I am not sure what you mean by pulling out the back freezer panel. I am attaching pics of the back and the inside of the freezer with the ice maker--- The ice maker has always been off--if that matters. It seems sealed.

I took off both panels on the back... one has a small PC card with cables and plugs. I removed and re-attached all plugs/cables I could reach without taking out the whole card.

The lower has the compressor and not sure what to call it---condenser. That grill like structure has a blanket of thick dust on it. I vacuumed it all out... and used an air gun with a needle tip to clean the inside and out as much as possible. I send an AFTER Clean pic as well. What is the J-Tube--looks like a water trap? It is not attached to anything on the loop of the J?

Not sure if I mentioned it yet... but when we 1st bought the house. Sodas were freezing in the refrig side... That was when we seldom oped the door. We moved it a week ago...not it cant get to recommended temps

Thanks again for your time...

Inside the freezer, pull off the back panel and expose the evaporator coils, take a picture of the frost pattern.

Default Cold but not cold enough... maybe fixed

I wanted to give you an update.... After cleaning the "coil" (not sure if that is what it is called) it seems to be working 99% better.

This morning the freezer was 1 degree--- (it was set at -4). The refrigerator was actually 34 degrees--set at the coldest setting. I increased the Fridge temp a little.

I will see how it goes for the next few days--- If it does not stay "fixed", I will open the Freezer Panel and report.

Thanks for your help...
